New 2024 Companies House Requirements: What You Need to Know About Your Registered Office Address

UK company law is evolving to protect businesses and fight economic crime. A crucial change is coming in March 2024, and it directly impacts your company’s registered office address. Here’s what you need to know:

Key Changes & What They Mean

  • Must Be Within the Same Jurisdiction: Your registered office must be located in the same UK country (England & Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland) where your company is registered.
  • Physical Address Required: PO Boxes are no longer allowed. You must provide a physical address where official correspondence can be received and acknowledged.
  • Publicly Available: Be aware that your registered office address will be on the public record.

Important Note: These changes are designed to increase transparency and accountability within the UK business environment.

What if I Need to Change My Address?

You can change your registered office address at any time, as long as the new address remains within the same jurisdiction. Here’s what you have to do:

  • Use form AD01 or update it online through your WebFiling account.
  • Companies House will process the change and update the public register within 24 hours.

Important: Ensure someone is available to sign for and receive official mail at your chosen address.

Additional Change: Registered Email Address

Starting March 4, 2024, all companies must also provide a registered email address to Companies House. This won’t be public, but Companies House will use it for official communications. Existing companies will provide this with their next confirmation statement.
